What are the best data analysis software tools for large-scale data processing?

Choosing the best data analysis software tool for large-scale data processing depends on your specific needs and requirements. Apache Hadoop: A widely used open source framework for large-scale data processing on computer clusters. Provides a reliable and scalable infrastructure for handling large volumes of data, using the MapReduce programming model to distribute processing tasks across multiple nodes. Apache Spark: Large-scale data processing engine that offers high performance and efficiency, compatible with multiple programming languages such as Python, Scala and Java, and can be used for batch and real-time data processing. Apache Kafka: distributed streaming platform that allows real-time data ingestion and processing.

Few tools within the Hadoop ecosystem: Sqoop: This tool serves as an ingestion mechanism to import external data into HDFS and vice versa. However, it's considered outdated in recent times. Pig: Pig is essentially a scripting language used for data cleaning. Similarly, it's considered outdated in recent times. Oozie: Oozie functions as a Workflow Scheduler, constructing a pipeline of jobs to be executed sequentially. However, it has been replaced with Azure Data Factory in recent times. Hive: Hive provides a SQL interface for querying data. HBase: HBase is a NoSQL database used for real-time data output or quick data searches. Nevertheless, it has now been replaced with Cosmos DB.

Apache Hadoop: The OG of big data, Hadoop is a framework for storing and processing large datasets across clusters of computers. It excels at batch processing structured data and is highly scalable. However, it requires programming knowledge in Java for advanced tasks.

NoSQL databases can be used for data analysis by providing scalable and flexible storage solutions for diverse data types. They allow for distributed processing and can handle large volumes of unstructured and semi-structured data efficiently. Additionally, NoSQL databases support parallel processing, enabling faster data retrieval and analysis compared to traditional relational databases.

Structured Query Language (SQL) databases are the traditional workhorses for data storage and analysis. They excel in handling structured data and support complex queries, making them suitable for large-scale data processing where the schema is known and consistent. SQL databases maintain ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability) properties, ensuring reliable transaction processing and data integrity. While they may not be as scalable as NoSQL databases for certain types of big data workloads, their robustness and efficiency make them an excellent choice for many large-scale data analysis tasks.

DataBase: It is mainly used to store Transactional Data meaning data gets updated on every day to day transactions. Ex: After every transaction my Current Balance needs to be updated. It stores the data in Structured format. It follows OLTP approach (Online Transactional Processing). It employs "Schema on Write" - It validates the schema structure and data types before inserting values into the database. Here Data will be kept in its normalised forms to reduce the redundancy. Examples: Oracle, MySQL, etc.

Cloud Data Warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift are great options for handling large data processing if SQL and tabular data is involved. These platforms have revolutionized how we can handle large volume data analytics because they are columnar in nature which is highly optimized for data analytics queries and processing. These platforms also have strong support for semi-structured data (JSON, XML). The cost of these platforms can be optimized quite easily. Snowflake, for example can provision warehouses to auto-suspend so the cost only occurs when you're either querying or processing data.

Extract: Data can be extracted from multiple resources. Ex: DB, Log files, csv files, google, XML files, etc Transform: Process of structuring the data as per the desired format which includes activities such as filtering, cleaning, querying joins, aggregating, etc Load: Storing the Data into DataWareHouse, DataLake from where it can be taken to visualise, report, etc DataWareHouse (DWH): A Data Warehouse ideally holds more data than a Database and is primarily used for analytical purposes. It allows for the storage of historical data. Data Warehouses also deal with structured data and utilise "Schema on Write". This follows "ETL" process - Extract Transform and Load.

Microsoft Azure Azure Synapse Analytics: A limitless analytics service that brings together big data and data warehousing. It gives you the freedom to query data on your terms, using either serverless or provisioned resources at scale. Azure Databricks: An Apache Spark-based analytics platform optimized for the Azure cloud services platform. It provides a fast, easy, and collaborative Apache Spark-based analytics service. Azure HDInsight: A fully managed, full-spectrum, open-source analytics service for enterprises. It's cloud-native and supports frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka. Azure Machine Learning: An end-to-end machine learning service for building and deploying models.

In my opinion, there will be only be the Big 3 Data Platforms: - Snowflake: for orgs that lean on relational dbs with mostly tabular data - Databricks: for orgs that come from the Hadoop/Spark world - BigQuery: for orgs that leverage GCP, BigQuery will handle most data analytics needs Each of these major data platforms have an entire ecosystem of tools and products to build off of: - Dagster: for data orchestration and pipeline development - Fivetran: for data replication from SaaS and DBs - Soda: for data quality via yaml declaration - Atlan: for data discovery and lineage - Coalesce: for data transformation and modeling - Sigma: for data visualization and reporting

Using any of the big cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) will automatically introduce their own ML capabilities out of the box. There will be a trend towards native ML capabilities and features that will accelerate the adoption and implementation of ML workloads while removing the complexity of orchestrating, managing, and monitoring ML workloads.

I have been mainly using Azure Databricks to analyze our huge data and understand our data insights.
