Some of the common metrics that are used to measure the performance of AI applications are speed, accuracy, scalability, reliability, and energy consumption. Depending on your application, you may prioritize some of these metrics over others. For example, if you are developing a real-time facial recognition system, you may value speed and accuracy more than energy consumption.

High-performance, distributed databases, especially MongoDB or other NoSQL systems. Tables or collections that are designed for Bayesian Regressions, Correlations, Anovas, Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithms are essential for the database tier. Python libraries such as TensorFlow, and specialized software such as Wolfram Mathematica that perform calculations are important depending on required statistics types. A scalable cloud, on-premise, or hybrid hardware platform that performs well at scale is essential. My choice is Amazon Web Services. Many claim AI is about GPUs and IOPS, but some algorithms don't benefit from GPUs at all. The single best performance factor is often the skill of the data science professionals designing the system.

In future what I think will be best for AI is the use of many small and fast processors group in a cluster working to achieve the goal. Just like in the human body where all our receptors are very energy efficient but the count matters. I think that we have to draw our experiation from nature just like all the base algorithms in AI.

2 Types of computer architectures

Computer architectures are the design and organization of the components and connections that make up a computer system, and there are various types suitable for different AI applications. For instance, Central Processing Units (CPUs) are good for sequential and logical tasks, such as control flow and arithmetic operations. However, they are not as effective for parallel and matrix operations which are common in AI. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) on the other hand, have many cores and high memory bandwidth which make them ideal for parallel and matrix operations, such as convolution and multiplication. Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) are custom processors optimized for tensor operations which are fundamental to deep learning. They have a large amount of on-chip memory and a matrix multiplication unit which allow them to perform tensor operations faster than CPUs or GPUs. Finally, Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are reconfigurable processors that can be programmed to perform specific functions, making them suitable for AI applications that require customization and versatility.

3 Pros and cons of each architecture

Each computer architecture has its own advantages and disadvantages for AI applications, depending on the trade-offs between performance, cost, power, and flexibility. CPUs are widely available, compatible, and easy to program but are slow, expensive, and power-hungry for AI applications. GPUs are fast, scalable, and affordable for AI applications but limited by memory capacity, bandwidth, and latency and require specialized programming frameworks and libraries. TPUs are faster, more efficient, and more reliable than CPUs and GPUs for AI applications but expensive, proprietary, and less flexible than CPUs and GPUs while supporting only a subset of AI algorithms and frameworks. FPGAs are customizable, adaptable, and energy-efficient for AI applications but complex, time-consuming, skill-intensive to program and design with lower performance and higher cost than TPUs for some AI applications.

The high performance of CPUs is important for accelerating computationally intensive AI tasks. GPUs were originally designed to create images for computer graphics and video games. TPUs are specialized integrated circuits developed and used by Google Cloud to provide advantages in DNN computation. In addition, the Data Processing Unit (DPU) is a recently proposed programmable specialized electronic circuit for data-centric computing that frees up the computational load of the CPU or GPU in hardware. While the best computer architecture for Artificial Intelligence applications is often considered GPU (Graphics Processing Units) and TPUs (Tensor Processing Units), it is crucial to assess the task and resources required to run certain algorithms before deciding on a particular architecture. Some of the factors affecting the choice of the architecture design include the degree of parallelism needed, the set of distinct operations performed, cost and power constraints, memory and precision requirements, as well as the specific scalability needs.
