The problem is: the technology changes very fast and old systems become technical debt that only grows if you don’t do anything. So if you at the end need to update your Codebase to minimize the technical debt otherwise your whole organization will get busted at one day.

From my experience blocking some room for improvement and redoing of existing things. Engineers love to be creative and improve things and on the other hand mostly get bored of only bigfixing and running from one fire to the next one. -> Block time to improve. We have a ?tuning Tuesday“ where we only improve existing things and don’t focus on customer wishes / new features at that one day of the week.
