A good question, but do not forget to consider the benefits and weakness of every solution beforehand. I was once tasked with writing a performant NURBS implementation, as the existing open source Python packages just weren't fast enough. By using PyTorch for computation, my version was on the order of 1000x faster than existing methods, as it utilised C++ and CUDA for execution. The whole task took only a few weeks, whereas writing it from scratch myself would have taken months, not to mention how high the risk of bugs would have been! Scientific computing libraries are fast, correct, and can be used very creatively.

I'm going to be be contrarian and say that they often don't. Compute libraries can tend to function like a language-in-a-language, where normal language primitives are replaced by library alternatives. Take PyTorch for example, where in order to make your tensor operations auto-diff-able, you have to use the libraries +, - and * rather than the friendly library ones that you're used to. Of course, there's a very valid reason for this, and I think PyTorch goes a long way to making the experience as pythonic as it feasibly can be, but my point is that the code is only easily readable if you're familiar with the library. Would it be worse if you wrote your own? Probably. So you could argue the library is more readable than the alternative.

If the library is intended for extensive use throughout the code, it's crucial to ensure its efficiency. Using such a library extensively without considering its impact can lead to significant issues. It'll be like a cancer! On the other hand, if the usage is limited to a specific part of the code, header-only libraries can be used based on your needs, as they have low complexity and minimal dependencies. Additionally, when making the choice, it's essential to consider your team members. It's really important for the chosen library to have complete documentation to avoid any difficulties in understanding and using it.

Early in my career, I thought that famous libraries were flawless. However, I gained experience over time, learning not to blindly trust them. I was given code to fix a memory leak issue. After investigation, I realized that the library used throughout the code was causing the problem. Initially, I didn't intend to change the implementations, so I manually freed the library's unfreed memory. However, due to performance issues, I eventually removed the library entirely from the code. While using this famous library is common, it was not a suitable choice for that extensively huge matrix computations on that code.

It can saves you a lot of time (and money) but you need to overcome the first impression that it's may be too much for your problem. Modern problems, requires modern solutions and showing quick (and robust) results will always prevails.
