1 What is operations research?

Operations research, or OR, is a field that originated during World War II, when scientists and engineers worked together to solve military problems, such as designing radar systems, allocating resources, and finding optimal strategies. Since then, OR has expanded to many other domains, such as health care, manufacturing, finance, and education. OR uses quantitative techniques, such as optimization, simulation, statistics, and game theory, to analyze complex situations and find the best solutions.
