What are the benefits of a strong answer to "Why should we hire you?

isn't the question "why should we hire you" out dated? Sounds like an old Elvis song (and by all means, nothing against the King). Seriously, do you want even to work for a manager or a company that asks the question? Isn't is a classic way to demonstrate power like "hey, look at us, we are the greatest, why do you want to be part of it". So in my opinion, we should give more time to candidates to ask their question as they also have a critical say in whether there is a fit or not. More likely, I would strongly consider a candidate who answers with "let me ask you back, why should I join you". So no, I cannot add a contribution on how to answer the question but I hope that we challenge ourselves and maybe change that question.

It shows that you are interested in the job and the company. A well-thought-out answer demonstrates that you have taken the time to learn about the company's mission, values, and goals and are excited about the opportunity to contribute to its success. It highlights your skills and experience. A strong answer should explain how your skills and experience make you a qualified candidate for the job. It shows that you are a good fit for the company culture. A strong answer should also convey your personality and work style. It sets you apart from other candidates. A strong answer can help you stand out from other candidates interviewing for the job.

the question is outdated and the appropriate answer could be ?well, if you don’t know, I can‘t convince you. Only you can convince you“. ?Estimating, that time is also at your organisation a scarce resource, you seem to have a better reason than curiosity to invite me. I’m very much interested to understand your plans with me“ ?? No fun. How can you convince people without knowing how they can be convinced? How their brain works. Collect information, by asking excellent questions and then match your personal portfolio against their needs.

I usually ask this question as I would like to gauge a candidate's confidence of their own branding, skills and competency. This will allow me to check if I would be working with them in building their brand and be comfortable in discussing who we are as a team to our stakeholders in the future. At times, people thought that this question is being asked just cause we wanted to but for most hiring managers this is helpful as we get to see a glimpse of how confident you are with your packaging as a future team member of the organization. At times though I use what they call "reverse psychology" tactic by asking "why should we NOT hire you?" this usually caught them off guard and said it made them think and usually answers it more comfortably.

In my opinion, the star method is an ideal way to answer any behavioral question. Even though “why should we hire you?” is not directly be able to question, we can always use this method to talk about a real-world situation and and how we approach a problem. Following such strategy is a great way to stay focused on the question without explaining/rambling about irrelevant details. also, this is a great method that we can demonstrate I was thinking patterns to the interviewer. I always encourage to use a genuine experience or example, when applying this method impropmptuly but to a question like this we can prepare in advance, and come up with brief and compelling answer.

Adding more to this based on the context, also to this question shows the interest that we have on a company. In order to provide a comprehensive answer, the interviewer must to a thorough research on the role and the company. This is an ideal opportunity to show how much we know about this position and that we have done the homework.
