In the projects I’ve worked before I’ve lacked this the most because I never wrote documentation or did regular maintenance. Since the 2 latest projects I’m doing this every week and I’m always in touch with what’s happening by maintaining it regularly. Also, most of us can forget code we wrote or the cause of an implemented feature, there comes documentation. In the latest project I’ve wrote documentation and did a complete ER Diagram for DB before even starting it, this has helped me a lot and I’ll continue with this type of workflow in the future.

One of the most important things indie web app developers fail to consider potential security risks associated with their app's logic. For example, storing unique auth tokens instead of username/password for faster logins might seem better, but how and where the auth token is stored matters a lot. If I as a developer just store the auth token as a text string in local storage or js cookie, then it's equivalent to storing the username/password. The better approach would be to use http cookie so that the auth token is encrypted and it's value can't be read even using browser's web tools. So, this is the kind of stuff which many new indie developers fail to consider, which might be due to stricter deadlines, but also do matter for a prod app.
