We are aware that in a fast paced world, we cannot build all the scenarios, however here are some ways that have proved beneficial in my Career. - Shortening the planning horizon, give an insight much faster than a monthly review , save time to act upon. - Have event based planning scenarios and try to cover up most of the scenarios in sight - Inventory buffer always comes in handy if a drop in Service Levels may have business impact. Thanks

To mitigate impact due to unexpected shipping delays may include- 1. Create a diversified supplier base to channel demand efficiently. 2. Keeping a buffer stock of products definitely helps. 3. Similar products can be kept in the market for an extended period to keep customers happy. 4. Calculate the loss that may incur and revolve around in the upcoming stocks to balance it out.

Shipping delays happen, but you can stay ahead by having backup suppliers, keeping extra stock, and keeping customers in the loop.

Murphy’s law - no matter how well you plan or prepare, there are always potential disruptions, delays, or unforeseen issues that can arise in supply chain. When that happens, assess the impact of the delay, communicate with stakeholders, evaluate costs of alternate options, eg expedited shipment. Having buffer inventory, having suppliers closer to the market demand, having visibility in supply chain will mitigate the risks.

Inform the customer, book another ship if the delay jeopardize the deal. Be cool since it can happen to anyone at anytime. You can easily manage the ship delay, mostly it will not be a cause for customer to cancel order in my experience
