Building a sense of community among remote students is more important than ever! Virtual social events, study groups, and interactive platforms are great ways to foster engagement, but personalisation is key. From my experience, students thrive when they feel a genuine connection, not just academically but socially as well.

Assignments that involve small groups or buddies for projects will accomplish that to a certain extent. However, after many years of teaching online, I have found that in an online class, students do not want "community". If they did , they would be in an in person class.
