Well, in the world of training, fairness is as important as the coffee we need to fuel our mornings! If a trainee feels they've been treated unfairly, we need to address it with the same care as making a perfect cup of coffee. I’d start by having a heart-to-heart with the trainee to understand their concerns. It’s important to listen carefully and get the full story before jumping to conclusions. Once we have all the details, we’ll sort it out together—because every trainee deserves a fair chance, and we want their experience to be as smooth and satisfying as our favorite coffee, aren't we ? :)

Nobody is perfect in this world and from bottom level to higher positions in any organisation everyone started there carrier as a trainee or subordinate. Only difference is to think positive and appropriate also fare for any other person who is capable and hardworking, just to give those wings so he/she can fly better.

In situations like these where the trainee feels that he/she is unfairly treated need to handle with sensitivity and professionalism. According to me, the trainer should have a private conversation with the trainee and listen to him/her without being judgmental. Being a calm and patient listener will build a trust and rapport thereby making it easier for the trainer to deal with the situation. Once the misunderstanding is cleared, the trainee would feel more accommodated and we can move on with the training process.

It is essential to listen, hear, and understand the reason(s) why the trainee feels they have been treated unfairly. Discuss the trainee’s concerns with the trainer then listen to hear and understand their point of view. I have found that some personalities clash and it may be better, if possible, to pair the trainee with a different trainer. If that is not possible, bring them together to discuss the situation and come to an amicable agreement on how to move forward. Provide strategies to help them manage their differences when interacting with each other. Training doesn’t end because the sessions are over. Both parties will need to work together and giving each other grace will be a vital part of making this possible.

I am assuming that as a Manager or colleague who has come to know about the incident is needed to respond. Motives drives behaviour and that determines the leadership style for any leadership ( directive, pace setting, collaborative, affiliative, visionary, coaching) and trainers are no exception. While it is expected that they demonstrate coaching, visionary type of a leadership, but often you will come across directive or pace setting behaviour of some of the greatest trainers. I will share this insight with the trainee who felt unfairly dealt and try to highlight the good takeaways and thus prepare the trainee to deal it better if encountered again. Also recommend some interpersonal behavioural and leadership courses for the trainee
