System architects are facing innovation challenges. How can you help them overcome these?

Helping system architects address innovation challenges requires an approach that takes into account their specific needs, skills and challenges. First, you should create a work environment that fosters creativity, resourcefulness and out-of-the-box thinking, and encouraging idea sharing and brainstorming among team members can lead to new perspectives and innovative approaches to problem solving. . Furthermore, the successes and innovations of system architects could be recognized and rewarded. This can motivate them to continue seeking new ideas and solutions and could include awards, professional development opportunities, or successful publications.

Something I've found it helpful to assist teams is how to frame trends and their purpose. We tend to think of trends as positive. Many trends end up being neutral or negative. In my experience, having some less senior team members explore trends that are getting a lot of press is beneficial. The architects can contribute thought/action to things once we know it's not just a new shiny toy. Now, the otherside of framing trends, comes down to if it matters. In my experience, the things that don't change make the most difference: a solid SDLC and sensible, intentional architectures.

Konzern-/kundenintern kann eine Community of Practice gute Dienste leisten, um auf dem aktuellen Stand zu bleiben.

Para todo arquitecto de soluciones y de software es importante hacer mejoras a los patrones arquitectónicos o adaptaciones la mayoría menos experimentada implementa los patrones como si fuese una receta de cocina al pie de la letra pero estos deben adaptarse si deben seguirse pero no de manera tácita debido a que no existen soluciones universales para los problemas o requerimientos cada uno deberá tratarse como un requerimiento único sin embargo es bueno apegarse a estándares de calidad tanto de dise?o de soluciones, construcción del software y ejecución de proyecto. No olvidemos también verificar que no caigamos en anti patrones esto por tratar de abusar de los controles y del uso de patrones.

Wichtig ist das systemische überprüfen neuer Ideen auf Praxistauglichkeit: Eine theoretische ansprechende Idee kann in der Realit?t schnell an technischen/organisatorischen Rahmenbedingungen, Compliance, Security, Komplexit?t aber auch überforderung von Projektteams scheitern. Change Management, zeitgerechte und dosierte Einteilung von Innovationen sind hier ein Schlüssel, um nicht an der Benutzerakzeptanz zu scheitern. Die technische Machbarkeit kann in Form kleiner Prototypen als Proof of Concept verprobt werden. Ergebnisse sollten gut motiviert werden, um den Mehrwert für die Teams darzustellen. INNOVATIONSSPRINTS (siehe SAFE) sind denkbar.

Innovation is a byproduct of looking at the same concept with different lens. Monitor new trends in technology as well as business. Be part of cross functional teams. Be the swiss army knife , not just the hammer.

But don’t forget KISS! So many times I’ve seen patterns required when they shouldn’t be, just for the sake of using patterns. Nothing says ‘prevent innovation’ like an architecture that forces all solutions down a pipe designed for unnecessary controls.

In my book, Patterns of Software Construction, I place design patterns as part of the development/construction of software - vs it being an architectural concern. It depends on the size of your organization. If you have 20 developers and 20K LOC, everything feels like architecture. If you have hundreds of developers and millions of LOC, then not so much. Pick a few patterns that will make your life easier, everyone can understand, and will provide resiliency to your system. And the ultimate, easy to use, reslient pattern is the Anti-Corruption layer. Any degree of developer can get around this concept and then architects can identify way to connect bounded contexts.

Feedback is critical for system design. To make the architecture work through collaboration, the architect and the team must be on the same virtual team. So a good system architect is always open to new feedback, constantly finds ways to improve their system architecture, and doesn't just wait for questions but asks for them. Feedback and review allow architects to be more aggressive about experimentation and other knowledge that relies on them.

Eliminate Waste. The concept of waste is highly subjective. The Product Manager may say that waste is any work built but not released. The operations engineer thinks conducting long releases and manual configuration is a waste. And finally, the software engineer thinks it’s all the meetings. It’s all waste when looked at from a given perspective. But turn the view, and you’ll see how subjective these concepts are.
