For any Upgrade Project , Goal Alignment is most critical objective .When we plan for any database upgrade project , first task is to identify all the application on it and share benefit of DB Upgrade . This help to Align goals of all teams .It good practice to share ROI and other benefit of Upgrade

The real issue here is selling IT upgrades to non-IT teams. IT people can see the benefits but what do the users get out it? Setting out a common understanding of why upgrades are important are a challenge for any Business but sometimes there is no payoff for the client. Maybe there is no new functionality or the better query performance does not matter. The real benefit of upgrading a database has two key advanatages: security and bug fixes. It is vitial to explain this to the other departments. "You may not have an issue today but if we don't patch, there will either be a security issue or a bug that wil effect you". Getting into the habit of regular patching and upgrades, saves the company time and money, in the long term.
