My experiences show that in regulatory environment risks are always very high on the agenda. Even more, holistic picture of regional or global portfolios are data driven risk based dashboards showing from the general overview - traffic lights to the required detailed areas with highest risks, more precisely threats that should be explored and managed. The best strategy is to eliminate cause of the threat instead of mitigation. I have been lucky so far, I have heard many times from steering and executive committees: "Are we sure that these are all most important risks that we should be informed about". In many cases they expect more and doubt that risks have been digested enough!

Risk awareness requires number of factors: theoretical knowledge, practical experience, critical analysis and ability to see ahead. Best delivered by practical presentation and influential communication. Listening cannot be underrated here because lack of it might steer it in quite a different direction.

As a CTO, I believe leadership requires proactivity. Create a strategic vision for the future, not only anticipate dangers. Proactive thinking offers choices and avoids reactive tactics, strengthening teams and improving decision-making. It shows leadership, promotes creativity, and builds stakeholder trust. Preparing for problems helps us achieve long-term objectives and enhance project results.

Risk discussion is typically met with resistance, especially when ignored or underestimated. Senior executives may see your prudence as a threat to their goals. Handling this resistance requires empathy and bravery. Recognise their concerns and project interest. Prove your risk management improves innovation. Instead of critiquing, collaborate to solve issues. Presenting your difficulties as a common success goal creates cooperation rather than confrontation. These issues need competent and courteous resolution. Open communication, dispute resolution, and common ground are essential. Your strategy may transform resistance into project-improvement debate.

Focussing on protect delivery will be most effective when instead of focusing on problem we focused on solving the problem. This means building personal resilience by creating environment where everyone can work together on the same goal. Helping, supporting and encouraging others for most productive result and aiming to get there without losing sight.
