1. Don’t protect your “writing voice”. Have many. The more voices you can execute well, the more clients you’ll have. 2. You’re a commercial artist not a fine artist. They’re hiring you to get a result. If you can’t give it to them don’t take them as a client, in fact refer them to somebody else who is great at the style they want. That way you avoid getting a client for whom you didn’t do a good job hurting your reputation and the next time they need a writer, they may think of you. 3. If there’s more than one person giving you notes from the same client, have them get on a zoom together, let them work it out between themselves, while you simply show them the upsides/downsides of various choices.

To maintain my writing voice while incorporating client feedback, I follow these steps: 1. Understand the Client’s Vision: I align my style with the client’s goals and brand voice. 2. Set Clear Boundaries: I communicate the core elements of my writing voice that should remain consistent. 3. Prioritize Feedback: I critically evaluate feedback, implementing suggestions that enhance the content without compromising my voice. 4. Flexible Revision: I adapt where needed, ensuring the essence of my style remains intact. 5. Final Review: I re-read to confirm my voice is present, even after adjustments. This approach ensures balance between client input and authenticity.

I believe that your personal writing voice always remains intact. Your style, tone, and structure are personal to you. The question is how do you refine it in a way that you are able to stand out. For me the answer is practice, practice and more practice. Writing is all about making repeated efforts to enhance your ability to communicate more skillfully.
