To handle multiple key accounts a well defined frame work is required. Such formats, routines, pop-ups & shared dash boards have to be in place. In a reactive environment either too much or too little will happen using same bandwidth. It is taxing intrinsically and extrinsically chaotic. This where boundary management and SLAs are important. On the other side at co worker level agreements will ensure a good flow, continuity of progress & closures will ensure. It needs huge engagement between internal and external customers. The moment buy & sell mode to partnership mode is switched on a lot of in action/ repetition and backflips will be cutdown. That adds to productivity in a big way. That will give a winning edge over competition.

Time blocking over multi-tasking is the way to go. Switching between accounts might seem like the right thing to do, but in my experience, it's better to block off an hour, 1/2 day, full day... for each account so that you can fully focus on that one project and also keep each project moving forward at an acceptable pace to meet deadlines. It's been proven that multi-tasking doesn't work, so I recommend avoiding it if at all possible.

Prioritization, prioritization, prioritization! When faced with difficult tasks that require a bit more time management than normal it it’s important to be as effective as possible. What I’ve found helpful is organizing my tasks from highest priority for business need/ urgency to the lowest. Assessing criticality/ productivity of what really needs to be done first is crucial. This approach allows you to work the bigger more important tasks so you can easily knock out the smaller ones later.

I'm a one-woman show so I rely on my project management tools to break down bigger tasks into smaller manageable tasks. Let's be honest, we get a lot of gratification from checking something off the list. It's a huge motivator too! I'm a proponent of using the "right" tools but not all of the tools. Often more is not more. And many times less is more!

Trust and respect are key when it comes to managing a team to help with multiple accounts. Everyone deserves the time to do a good job and I think it's so important not to time-crunch anyone in any part of the process. It's easier said than done but at least at the outset I try to set realistic schedules and expectations and check in with contractors regularly to be sure they have what they need... both time and assets.

Though, I agree trust and respect are essential and it goes both ways. Setting the foundation with your team for effective communication from the start is ever more important. Truly listening to your team together/ individually and showing that you have their best interest in mind will open the door for a connection. I believe it is important to have a management approach to things but equally if not more important is to have the ability to be approachable to your team in order to create that environment where that trust, respect, and effective communication is fostered. Define clearly the task, resources required, and importance of the task. Regular checkpoints and availability for questions are necessary without micromanaging. Adjust your delegation style to the experience level of the team member, establish accountability, and trust them to get the job done. Delegate wholes of tasks to provide ownership and as a tool for challenging or encouraging motivation in the team. And finally, delegate routine tasks in order to free up more time for strategic focus.
