Introducing advanced warehouse technologies poses challenges. How do you ensure effective employee training?

To implement the technology in terms of training, organisations have to identify their technical knowledge of their employees by taking the feedback with them. To gather feedback implementation team needs to show the basic visuals of the technology to their employees, which help into reach and gather feedback all level of employees about the technology. This practice will help the implementation team to roll out the new training technology, also they will get proper response from the organisation employee as the technology will be familiar to them. Which results in getting the better output.

I always say that training is necessary, then more training, because warehouse management is always developing. The warehouse staff must be familiar with what is new in warehouses, taking into consideration the career progression of each staff, because each category has different responsibilities from the other.

To ensure effective employee training when introducing advanced warehouse technologies, start with hands-on, role-specific training sessions that demonstrate practical use. Use a mix of in-person workshops, online tutorials, and simulations to cater to different learning styles. Provide ongoing support with access to resources like user manuals and a helpdesk. Encourage a culture of continuous learning by offering refresher courses and fostering peer mentoring. Regularly assess employee understanding and adapt training as needed to address any gaps or challenges.

Exposure to this new technology is key, build a training program geared for this new technology, make the training experience fun, interactive, participation based it will definitely leave a lasting impression on your team(s). For the weeks ahead, follow up, follow up, follow up with your team(s) to check to provide understanding, feedback, and support.

I totally agree with the gap analysis. It gives the employer and employee mutual understanding of their responsibilities toward the development of each other and therefore creating culture of transparency and openness to fulfill common goal/s.

Few ideas to implement this continuous support By taking just 5-10 minutes of their time after their shift start and repeat the training sessions topic wise (one at a time). It doesn't matter if the topic recall takes 2 minutes or less but it should not take more than 10 minutes otherwise the interest of the employees will be diverted and the output will be reduced. In case of topic takes more than 10 minutes time then this training will be bifurcated into different times of employees shift ex. after lunch, after any major break or just before their shift ends which will help the continuity of training and its benefits.

Training should be incorporated in the procurement of any new technology. The supplier or contractor will be in the best position to provide training. It will be better if the training can be done in a sustained manner, and not just a one-shot. There’s the initial training before implementation, another session once the new technology has been introduced, and refresher or revalida training at least a year after.
