I would firmly explain the importance of adhering to safety standards, emphasizing the legal and ethical obligations involved. I'd highlight the potential risks, including harm to personnel, legal liabilities, and damage to the company's reputation. Then, I'd propose alternative solutions that meet the client's needs while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Listen carefully to their requests and understand the reasons behind them. Sometimes clients may not fully comprehend the safety implications of their requests.will suggest for alternative option/method/process/mechanism.Each and every task having numbers of solutions so will go through the alternative first,other than will explain in term compliance, regulations and legal for this we can ask to any expert who can assist and help for the same.

Fully agree with comments made by Tony Albert. I recently was speaking to a CEO who challenged me on what I would do in a similar scenario. I replied to him I would speak to him in calm respectful way using facts/evidence where possible to reinforce the request. He ask me if his response was still no. My simple reply was I would question whether I should be working in such an organisation with leadership or lack of such.

I will assure my client that the safe way is the best way by suggesting other ways and means that I will use to achieve their goals and targets without compromising safety protocols.

Being employed as Security Professional in Reliance; we had been taught first thing, on the very first day about - 1. Safety of Stakeholders, and 2. Following the Law of the Land (Ethics within your area of RACI). Once your concept is clear, you can either/or - 1. Make the client understand the long-term consequences, which will compromise the safety of its stakeholders. 2. Talk about the requirements; Understand it. Sometimes, there is a mismatch in what they want, and how they want to achieve it. That's why the company needs people who can think holistically keeping long-term consequences in mind. To go further, I would suggest adding elements such as proactive communication by anticipating potential friction points and clearly communicate the reasons for proposed adjustments. Also highlighting the benefits of security by showing the counterpart that security measures are not constraints but investments in the long-term success. And then, involving teams both technical and security teams in the negotiation to ensure effective implementation.

In theory, Safety is non-negotiable. In the real world we should always go back to the heirarchy of safety (elimination, substitution, engineering controls.......) as a guiding principle when we negotiate for solutions.. Again the best / viable solution / alternative comes from a cross functional team. Not just the safety professional.

Once the agreement is reached, document all terms, Keep written records of all decisions and communications regarding safety concerns . This can be important for legal protection and accountability.

Refer to the contract agreement which is made between the client and the contractor. Mention the clause no or safety standard which is related to the work in the contract agreement. Make the client understand that both parties are accountable for upholding the agreed-upon safety standard.

As per my personal experience, Developing, Improving, Enhancing Safety is not a game of spoon. It's a fruit of long-term thinking, planning and daily, weekly, monthly, yearly reviews, follow-ups and monitoring. It's a cycle like PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act). #SafetyImprovement

Consistent follow ups are necessary to ensure that the agreed safety measures are adhered to and not just on documents. This is a great way to make sure all hands are on deck and rules are followed and kept.

Safety is a top priority in any situation. If a client requests compromising safety standards to get the job done, we must first analyze the risk involved and outline the possible consequences. After the assessment, we should sit down with the client to discuss the likelihood and severity of possible occurrences. We should also explore alternative methods to complete the job safely. If the client does not agree, we should not be part of an unsafe workplace.

Don’t be afraid to walk away. In Australia with new WHS legislation consultants and those providing advice can be prosecuted for incorrect advice. If the client refuses to take onboard your suggestions around safety initially it’s unlikely they will change!

Compromising what I value hits at the heart. Just like valuing your children, your spouse, your family - seeking to intentionally compromising safety standards is a non-starter business relationship. Asking me to participate, or advise a client, that dismisses the value of safety as a business decision is simply a client that doesn't need my help.

I’d turn the tables and ask the client what they’d do if they were asked to do the same. You may be surprised at the outcome of such and approach.
