How would you address a situation where client demands conflict with established safety procedures?

Safety is paramount in the workplace and so far in my experience both Clients and my Company have this as a top priority. Together with the same goal for our workers of course from an outdated procedure or by a hazard identified will be worked and updated in a timely manner as to meet current environment for both parties (via required SWMS and SOPs) as to be compliant.

La comunicación es clave para poder llevar a cabo un proyecto en línea con la seguridad y salud en el trabajo. La importancia de los procedimientos debe ser explicada adecuadamente al cliente, teniendo en cuenta a qué tipo de cliente nos dirigimos y al sector en el que están. Un procedimiento es la base para cualquier trabajo y esto debe tenerlo muy claro el cliente, además de recalcar la importancia de la difusión del mismo a todos los involucrados. Una forma de comprometer al cliente es haciendo que ellos sean los responsables de la aprobación del mismo mediante una firma.

Production Managers were adamant that if we required staff to go by the established LOTO procedures they would drop production levels. I pointed out that just one incident where an employee was injured or worse yet, killed because they did not follow the proper LOTO procedures, could result in delays of production, decrease in employee morale and increased Workers Compensation costs. I was working Safety on a job , when the client was constantly trying to introduce product into the system while work was still being done and not yet signed off.
