This happened to me at my last big digital event. The show must go on because we aren't responsible to our speaker, we are responsible to our audience. We held a discussion around the key points the presenter was going to make. And, the outcome was great as the community questions and discussion made for a powerful session!

While that’s in progress, get the rest of the audience to do some neck, arm and back stretching to limber up. When everyone in yellow is finished, return to the table and join everyone else. Repeat/adjust as needed. Get the blood flowing, and watch the creativity follow!

Actually I disagree with the concept of key speaker. You should have a panel of speakers taking the stage. And at some point a few of them joining on stage for Q&A . This is not a Michael Jackson concert. It’s a speaking event. Never put all your wealth on 1 horse. So you avoid getting yourself in these kind of situation . Think broad think collectively, think collaboration. This is not a single Dj event. Set yourself a wining strategy.

Relay cancellation as soon as possible. Book an alternative that has a similar level of value and is a fit within the profile/demographic of the attendee. Request the speaker who canceled record a video apologizing and announcing the new speaker.

I think offering a discount or some other service is a great idea. Additionally, see who else in your immediate circumference that can step in as an expert. Usually the Keynote is the draw but, prep a backup, just in case. Also as stated, make it now an interactive session with your audience. Q&A, Visioning and maybe even possible Pitch sessions can substitute depending on the subject matter. Give your audience time now to Network making groups of different voices connecting and expanding their horizons. Network = Net Worth.
