Use QQ plots to test normality of residuals, and apply the Durbin-Watson test for autocorrelation—especially in time series data. Examine multicollinearity using the Variance Inflation Factor (VIF); high values indicate correlated predictors. Finally, run out-of-sample testing or cross-validation to test model performance under different datasets.

It depends on what model you’re using and the objective/problem that you’re trying to address. I prefer f-stat when using gradient boosted models as it balances precision and recall well. For logistic regression I prefer adjusted r squared to maintain conservatism. If it’s a linear regression then I prefer MAE when not concerned with outliers or RMSE when I want the model to be penalized for outliers. My personal favourite for binomial regression model however is confusion matrix which is so easy to interpret and explain, also I can focus on precision or recall depending on model objective.

I find confusion matrix to be a good visual depiction for model performance. It’s easy to create and interpret. Also, you can calculate multiple performance metrics using the confusion matrix such as precision, recall, f1-score, accuracy, AUC-ROC etc.
