Many smaller brands will start out using excel to create BOMs and tech packs. While this is okay in the short term, as the brand grows and scales I recommend using a PLM software system to house, create and update tech packs. This provides one source of truth along with consistently of content and quality of information within your tech packs. A PLM system also facilitates ease of sharing, tracking, and greater security. It can also allow for process drivers such as line level BOM driven component costing.

To ensure effective and efficient sharing and tracking, use secure and reliable methods to share your BOM with your suppliers, vendors, or teams; communicate clearly and promptly to track your BOM; and measure and evaluate your BOM and product performance, quality, cost, and sustainability with relevant and accurate data.

Ideally your PLM system allows for a vendor portal. This way you can release tech packs directly to your suppliers. If not, I would recommend a shared storage system such as Dropbox. You can give different suppliers access to different folders, therefore controlling who has access to certain tech packs and files.
