How do you use quality tools and techniques to identify and eliminate the root causes of poor quality?

Agree. When we state Quality management, our minds spirals down to product quality only. Product quality is important , no doubt, but TQM indicates quality in whatever we do. It clearly subscribes to excellence in our Marketing , Sales, Execution, Procurement, Manufacturing, after sales and service and so on and so forth. Quality of products comes from Quality of our processes and not from Inspection !

To identify and eliminate the root causes of poor quality, use tools like the Fishbone Diagram (Ishikawa) to visually map out potential causes of problems. Apply the 5 Whys technique to drill down to the underlying issues by repeatedly asking "why" until the root cause is identified. Utilize Pareto Analysis to prioritize the most significant problems based on their frequency or impact. Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to systematically evaluate potential failure points and their effects. Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor processes and identify variations, ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly to maintain quality standards.

It is fundamental to first create the culture of quality from the top to bottom level & invest more in Quality Assurance than Quality control as it help reduces the cost of poor quality in a major way. 5 Why Analysis vs IS/IS Not analysis 5 why analysis helps to understand the underlying root cause due to which a problem is occurring whereas Is/Is not analysis can be used for root cause identification however it can also be used to define a complex problem. This helps to narrow down the scope of the problem and focus on the problem area whereas In a why why analysis each cause is further studied for factors that make the cause occur.
