As enticing as the cloud's scalability is, it's vital to juxtapose it against today's tech realities and consider traditional solutions. I think that while cloud computing is the hot topic, it is not for everyone in every situation. Depending on load it can often be cheaper to stay on-premise. You lose a lot of the benefits of cloud based systems such as geographic dispersion, redundancy, up-time and quickly adding compute resources as needed. But if you have already invested in a decent datacenter and you have the resources to take care of your systems effectively, a lot of use cases don't require what cloud offers. Just something to think about in the rush to join the cloud. Assessing what makes sense to move to the cloud is very important.

I'd say the most important thing is take the time to run early feedback sessions to work out a few things - - to help identify issues early and address resistance - to determine if people are confused by the new technology to build better knowledge and rollout plans - to not let planning go too far without the right stakeholders in the loop - to get early buy-in Also think about whether sessions should be - one-on-one - which can produce more accurate feedback but require more time and a mature audience to review OR - larger sessions, where you run the risk of missing out on insightful opinions but can work faster
