How do you update your warehouse skills?

I would say more experience. It will increase your productivity. You will become more routine and repetitive. You will grow a customer base. You will become more of a leader.

Staying engaged in industry workshops, online courses, and hands-on experiences helps me maintain sharp and current warehouse skills, ensuring top-notch performance in dynamic environments.

Be honest with yourself and know your skills. Never be afraid to ask questions when you're struggling to solve an issue. I have always been a "I'll figure it out" person for the longest and have realized recently that other's perspective and skill sets matter. Not only it can help us be more efficient but we could also learn from others and add those lessons / tips to our own skills.

In my experience we should be looking to learn new things and get trained in activities or roles which are related to warehousing. For example: forklift, reach trucks, power pallet trucks trainer (instructor), racking inspection, Pest control, health and safety related courses. This will surely help to advance your career and be ready for any future opportunities within the industry.

I agree but I have worked within my company since I left school (literally a week after I left school) and have worked with my dad ever since and a few other great hard working old fashioned shall I say workers! And everyone especially my dad has said learn anything and everything!! I have always had a thought in myself to learn every single bit of machinery possible! And had training in such too! Whatever you do in your warehouse. Whether that be steel production to vegetable produce. Learn to operate that circular saw or that gantry crane or that WMS or learn and train on how to use a MEWP. My personal next massive goal for myself is to gain a full HGV Class 1 licence and then in my eyes I feel nearly complete but I can still do more!

Related courses in the industry are a sure-fire way to get ahead of the learning curve and stay current with new and better techniques and technologies.

Regular performance reviews, leveraging online learning resources, mentoring, and participating in industry events help keep skills current.
