Before doing anything, check the available schematics/systems diagrams to get an idea of what you're dealing with. Of course you can't rely on it a 100% but that'll give you an idea of what to roughly expect. Also check the dates the diagrams were last updated.

When checking the grounding, it's also important to check the isolation of other wire to be ground. Therefore, a *highpot-test* should be used. The highpot test applies a fairy large voltage, which can be selected in the range of 500-5kV by the test equipmement.
