Maybe, we start by making sure students can accurately identify a right triangle, have a basic understanding of elementary geometry concepts, and have reached the level of spatial reasoning needed to visualize and interpret their findings. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the percentage of students in the United States who were proficient in mathematics varied across different years and grade levels. In the most recent NAEP assessment (2019), 34% of 8th-grade students in the US were proficient in mathematics. For high school students (12th grade), the percentage of students who were proficient in mathematics was lower, at 25%.

This framework would help ensure that all students, regardless of their location or school, have access to a high-quality math education that is aligned with the expectations for mathematical proficiency.
