Understanding Hash tables gives you a good insight on how caching systems work, which are an integral software component in data access and retrieval optimization. Its a mechanism implemented from the lowest level of computation (memory access in CPU through L1/L2/RAM) to synchronizing multiple clients in distributed services and serving faster responses from web applications. Cryptography principles can be used in secure information transfer and storage, in identifying communication parties, validating data integrity via checksums, etc. While not directly related, both hash tables and different cryptography techniques utilize one-way hash functions.

In my opinion, Tree is a good choice to represent hierarchal data as it helps to manage data easier. File system is a best example to understand Tree where we have some drives and each drive can have some folders/files and folder can have subfolders/files. Recursion is used in various algorithms ex divide and conquer, dynamic programming and backtracking etc.Base condition for recursion should be implement very carefully as it can lead to stack overflow errors.

I agree that in some level we need to carefully design how the data structure (DS) should be for storing the data. For example if we build a multi dimensional DS, not only should the DS fits the business requirement, but also the impact of the process that should be built on that DS (or shortly the algorithm to process). This will be related with the selection of technique (algorithm) to process that DS. That ends up of the time and space complexity. Recursive technique is common for the multi dimensional DS but may impact on the complexity, if we don’t carefully make the algorithm to be efficient or not test it properly, there might be hidden logical flaw happened in the future.

Trees are useful data structure to hold hierarchical data and the way to traverse the tree is recursion. Eg. think of the linux cmd how to implement "mkdir". In our day to day programming recursion can be used instead of iteration. Two things that needs to be considered while choosing recursion over iteration is- 1. Can lead to performance degradation. 2. Increase in stack size if the recursive functions are deep and the call stack calling the recursive function is deep leading to crash.

In my opinion, trees and recursion go hand in hand when it comes to software stability. Trees help organize data hierarchically, making it easier to manage complex structures. Recursive algorithms, such as those for tree traversal, offer elegant solutions to various problems. However, it's crucial to implement recursion carefully to prevent stack overflow errors.

In it's simplest avatar, decision trees have 2 nodes eg)Male ♂? and Female ♀?. This is a binary tree. Database indexes, if built on these, can eliminate 50% items in the first iteration. In fact, at a semantic level these are linked lists, with the leaf node pointing to the data.

As per my experience, Array is a good choice if data is of the same type and size of data is known. Arrays are useful when fast accessing is required. Sorting is a way to organize data in ascending or descending order. There are different efficient algorithms ex Merge sort, Heap sort and Quick sort. However which algorithm should we choose it depends on some factors ex data set etc.

It of course depends on programming language that is used. But my experience on creating analytical cubes based ROLAP (Relational Online Analytical Processing) models in C++ shows that most efficient way of storing/accessing data is to use unordered hash maps where complexity is O(1) in average for all operations.

In my experience, combination of array, sorting and recursion should be taken seriously and designed properly. The logical flaw of sequence for even two lines of code may cause a logical flaw that produces unexpected output. This just happened to me recently.

However, during complex programming where large /many local variables needs to be declared, eg complex structs, the size of the stack should also be taken into consideration. Instead of declaring huge static arrays, using dynamic allocations are beneficial. Also, special care needs to be taken when using array of a constant size to avoid buffer overflows.

Stack and Queue both are important data structures. Stack is based on LIFO and queues are based on FIFO. In real word 'UNDO REDO' functionality can be a good example. When undo operation is performed then data is popped from the UNDO stack and pushed to the REDO stack.In redo operation data is popped from the REDO stack and pushed to the UNDO stack. Queues are used at various places ex task scheduling, message buffering and batch processing etc.

Stacks work on the principal of LiFo or Last in First out, this means that whatever goes into the stack at the end comes out first, or simply speaking it reverses the order of its contents. Whereas, Queues work on the principal of FiFo, or First in First out, meaning it maintains the order of insertion. These two principles play a huge role in how they are used, whenever there's a need for ordered processing or retrieval of a collection of data we use queues, and when reversal is necessary without writing complex sorting or reversal techniques, we use stacks. Real world uses of both are synchronised processing for queues, and recursive method calling for stacks. I hope this helps.

Sometimes, Dijkstra's algorithm will not work because of a negative edge weight. In this case you would have to look at an alternative algorithm such as Bellman Ford or Floyd Warshall algorithm.

Data structures should be chosen based on what the applications we are enabling. Ease of scaling, retrieval and processing of data all are dependent on the problem which is being solved. A particular data structure that might be the most effective for a very specific problem may not be the same for another problem. It is important to understand the whole end to end problem. And solve for the problem. Algorithms too are similar. Certain algorithms having very good runtime for a specific size of data may not be as performant on a bigger size or even a smaller size of data, where a different one might be better. Algorithms and data structures need to work in tandem with Design and architecture. Ex: “lazy loading” or “weak consistency”
