You very much need to be aware of all relevant global legislations in regards to data security, standards and regulations. But you must take into consideration what happens when data crosses borders from one jurisdiction to another, where the data originates and the new data begins and ends too. You have to understand the nuances of difference between say the EU GDPR, what was the UK GDPR and is the Data Protection Act and so on. ERP'S come with regionalisation, that you enable. But you still need a balance check and oversight. I can't stress enough how much you need a Data Architect & Engineers to lead this function. There are significant penalties for getting it wrong. The great ones in this field understand the complexities.

Provide regular and tailored security awareness and education programs that cover the best practices, policies, and procedures for your ERP system. As the adage goes, security begins with you. In my opinion staff training on information security is mostly overlooked as a security measure. While social engineering security threats become more rampant, information security training should be mandatory for ERP users.
