Before you negotiate fees with singers of different genres, you need to know your value as a vocal coach. How much experience and expertise do you have in each genre? Simply tell them what your hourly rate is and they can take it or leave it.I think singers that are handed or offered a GOOD original song to sing should do it not for the money but because they want to They should register with tge PPL and if the song takes off that's how they will get paid.

I have over 30 years of vocal coaching experience teaching my Effortless Singing Techniques which apply to all genres. Because immediate improvement can be felt and heard, progress is measured by before and after singing experiences, and heard on recordings. I charge $60/hour for in person lessons and $50/hour over Skype and zoom.

Each student you teach has different goals for themselves. The older singer trying to recover their singing skills is very different from the young Maverick looking to make the world sit up and take notice. The non professional student will have more accessible music choices, need more time with theory and personal encouragement and will tend to have music you can accompany more easily. I would go for $100 per hour The young Maverick will want more focused and specific work (perhaps on audition materials that are new or unknown) you may need to hire an accompanist or take much more prep time to be sure you are giving them what they need. For that reason I would charge up to $200 per hour (part of that going to the accompanist.

3 Consider the genre

I keep it simple with with coaching rate. I use an hourly rate, $250 and for singers a half-rate for 30-minutes,, because a half-hour lesson can be focused and productive, and performer’s budgets are tight. I work with singers who have solid technique. What I focus on in my coaching is performance. I do the same for my voiceover folks. It’s all about how you deliver the lyric or the copy and your technique must serve that goal.
