In my experience, in house accountability and proper training is far better than over paying outside vendors. While I understand the balancing act of such decisions, I’m speaking just as a boots on the ground everyday operator who should learn and know , sights sounds readings and why how and what when something is not “ normal “

A few things to consider are: 1. How critical is the equipment in the application, and what will be affected if the unit fails and what costs will be incurred in regard to down time and repair/replacement? 2. Is there back-up equipment or alternating spare's? 3. What are the cost advantages of "run to failure" vs periodic inspection? 4. What is the value of the equipment vs inspection costs? 5. What is the lifespan history of the equipment with and without inspection? 6. Some equipment is engineered for a fixed specific application and include Warranty periods of up to 5 years. This means they expect their equipment to last a minimum of 5years 24/7, before rebuild or service is required.
