Determining the maturity of your data governance practices involves assessing the current state of your organization’s data management processes, benchmarking them against industry standards or best practices, and identifying areas for improvement. I would say operationally this is correct. You should have metrics for quality, NPS scores of stakeholders maybe, compliance audits, etc. However, all of these metrics are useless if the maturity of your data governance program isn’t aligned to business value. Data quality scores going up! Um, who cares? What impact did that improvement have on your business? Overall, absolute track the tactical metrics that measure specific areas for improvement, but also make sure your maturity model includes measuring how closely you’re tying governance programs to business value.

Numerous Data Maturity Assessments (DMA) are available, such as those provided by DAMA and DCAM, among others.
