Speak slower than you normally do! We tend to get nervous and speak quickly, so take your time. Another tip is to warm up with exercises or doing a bit of your presentation beforehand. A lot of time, your first few minutes of a presentation you end up "warming up" and easing in, so why not do that ahead of time and start off confidently?

While practicing for a presentation, have someone you trust provide you with some feedback. Make sure this person will be critical if needed rather than someone who will just make you feel good because you want to be as polished as possible. Have them sit in the back of the room to make sure those furthest away will be able to hear well. If you're using equipment (AV, mics, etc.) then that should be tested too. Toastmasters International is also an excellent resource worldwide to get feedback on vocal variety and many advanced clubs will give you the evaluations! Something you could ask specifically if feedback on your vocal variety. I had one evaluator point out that I “lip smack” occasionally (something you will notice if you are listening for it - especially with certain mics!)

The best way to sound like you know what you are talking about is to know what you are talking about. Get to know your topic well and use the slides only as cue for your presentation. Remind yourself the two or three key messages you really wants to emphasize and repeat them.

Call your audience’s attention by asking the audience a question, giving a challenge, referring a key point from previous speaker, connecting with today's news to put your presentation in a context that the audience care. Humors and stories can and often fall flat with international audience. We all love to laugh, just not always about the same things.
