Well, the simplest way is to backtrack. Once I see a news, which is too good to be true or which ekes of some form of misinformation, I do a background research on the topic, from various sources, in order to establish its authenticity and then respond accordingly. Believe me, in today's day and age of Google, Wiki and so on its not that difficult, as compared to earlier when you had to go to a library and search through newspapers/articles and books to establish the real truth or source of news. In today's day and age of AI, anything can be 'produced' and made to look real.

With the current global digital growth, access to internet and numerous issues around cyber security, as a company or an organisation, its vital to have digital communication crisis strategy in general to attend to cases such as social media fake news. However, to be specific, when hit by such fake news, its crucial to gather full information about the fake news, address the topic as senior management, with resolution to response and counter, but there are some moments u just have to let such news slide, while in others events needs proper counter. Countering such news should be beared with facts, evidenced information and truth addressed to your audience with respect and in an apologetic manner if your company was on wrong.

In the era of media advocacy I ardently follow this practice. In my opinion all users need to be collectively responsible for analyzing the pattern of fake news and the impact an innocuous statement can have. Plus being from the media industry we must also be conscientious in what we are interacting about whilst sharing information without proper fact-checking.
