To effectively manage server virtualization, you need tools that can help with tasks like provisioning, configuration, backup, migration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of VMs. Common virtualization management tools include VMware vSphere, a comprehensive platform that provides a suite of tools for managing VMs across multiple hosts, clusters, and data centers; Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), a tool that enables you to manage VMs running on Hyper-V, VMware, and Citrix platforms; and Red Hat Virtualization (RHV), which leverages the open-source KVM hypervisor to provide a scalable and secure platform for managing VMs. Features of these tools include vMotion for migrating VMs without downtime, vSphere HA for high availability and fault tolerance for VMs, live migration and backup of VMs, snapshot, cloning, and monitoring of VMs, as well as integration with other Red Hat products such as Ansible and Satellite.

In order to manage server containerization properly, you need tools that can assist with orchestration, networking, security, and logging of containers. Some of the most popular containerization management tools are Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, and OpenShift. Kubernetes is an open-source platform that automates the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications across multiple nodes and clusters. It includes features such as service discovery, load balancing, self-healing, and horizontal scaling of containers. Docker Swarm is a native tool of Docker that enables you to create and manage a cluster of Docker nodes and containers. It offers features such as service discovery, load balancing, rolling updates, and encryption of container communication. OpenShift is a platform that combines Kubernetes with additional tools and services to provide a comprehensive solution for building, deploying, and managing containerized applications. 5 Best practices for server virtualization and containerization

To optimize the performance, reliability, and security of your server virtualization and containerization, you should plan your resource allocation and capacity, implement backup and disaster recovery, secure your network and data, and update and patch your software. Assess your current and future resource needs and allocate them accordingly to your VMs and containers. Monitor your resource utilization and adjust them as needed. Backup your VMs and containers regularly in a secure location, and have a disaster recovery plan to restore them in case of a failure or attack.
