Choosing right PDM (Product Data Management) platform is key. PDM software like Teamcenter, Vault will enable you to control access and ease the process of Data Sharing. It will also enables smooth collaborative work.

Simply use a good PLM system on the Cloud, one like Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Not only is it multi-CAD (you can save parts and assemblies with data from various CAD systems simultaniously), but it allows you to work both in online and offline mode, manage versioning, change, user access via Collaborative Spaces, etc. And it goes WAY BEYOND simple CAD. Do not waste time anymore investing in outdated, file-based PDM system. Go Model-Based, go Cloud-based.

There are several kinds of cloud-based CAD platforms: 1/ CAD-only platforms like Onshape in this case, there is no heavy client download or local file storage. But there is also just a bare minimum of PLM functionality. This has to be added from another vendor. 2/ Full Cloud PLM You can also leverage the power of a local CAD client and local storage cache (thus decreasing the network performance lag for large models) by connecting to a cloud-based PLM platform such as 3DEXPERIENCE, Windchill+, or Teamcenter X. In this case, you have the full power of the local system and leverage the cloud for all metadata. 3/ PaaS-based PLM This is like the above case, but PLM is deployed as a managed service. You have more control, but less automation.

Latency plays a role here if you use cloud platform. Invest in network to overcome the challenges associated with latency with cloud platform. However it is worthwhile to note that some applications support caching or a local cache server to minimize the impact. Some of the applications also use streaming of databases to synchronise changes almost immediately. If you are using only for viewing then web based interfaces should work fine but with limited features

Using a very detailed naming structure like this can be problematic. I prefer just using the part number and maybe brief description. Ex: 002-3456 - ANGLE BRACKET. That way if you use on another project, Change version, or make other changes you don’t have to change the file name which could break links/associations.

Synchronization has saved me a lot of stress of having to copy, send and share files. All you have to do is ‘update’ For example, working on a device at home and having to continue same project file at work, synchronization saves me the hassle.

And if someone checked out the part no other can work on it at the same time. So it's always how you utilise the time and work.

In my opinion, in today’s fast paced environment, passive approach of sharing CAD data via emails, fTP links and waiting for response from other stake holders is counterproductive. I see this happening even within the same organisation between departments. Technology today has made collaborative reveiw possible and it does improve productivity, efficiency of the team and also prevents reworks . Colab is one such software which enables collaborative review.

The best system is only as good as it is accepted by the users or implemented in the culture. In my experience when establishing new systems, it will only used when using it is a real habit of the people. So instead of just implementing a new naming system, make sure to find ways that people make a habit out of it. You will be thankful in stressy times. Speaking from my experience in building prototypes, you stick to the perfect documentation and naming in less stressful periods, but fall back to your habits (e.g. bad documentation) when it gets stressy.

This question does not make sense and is a nice example on today's AI limitations. It makes no difference for a CAD file to be in a timezone or another. Or any other file for that matter. If you have more than 1 person working on a single CAD assembly or project at a time, consider using a PDM software compatible with your CAD software.

For medium to large orgaizations, Windchill kind of PLM software would help in storing, managing the lifecycle and retrieve globally from anywhere. It is important to pay attention to 1. Traceability of the CAD documents and related documentation 2. Performance of operations 3. Security of the content being shared 4. Usability of the process steps in the context of a very complex product development with global teams including localization. CAD Application usually does not have such capabilities and there is a need to adopt PDM / PLM platforms to manage collaborations. Choosing a PLM would also enable lot of other auxiliary app integrations such as ALM, Thing Worx (IOT) & so on. One can't imagine about Digital Twin w/o PLM in place.

Anfangs m?gen diese klein und vernachl?ssigbar sein, aber die Zeit, die diese "kleinen" Fehler in Summe kosten, sprengt in der Regel sogar den zeitlichen Rahmen, den die Planung zur Vermeidung des Ganzen mit sich bringen k?nnte.

I was involved in a machine project in which we were 6 people designing in different places, the references and base parameters of the machine were established so that each of those involved could develop our design using a "top down design" methodology. We did not have a CAD license to share files in the cloud like Autodesk Vault or Windchill, we used Onedrive, this required good coordination from the project manager who was in charge of carrying out the final assembly. I think that the success of the project was based on the fact that people were well informed about its design scope and the good integration that the project manager did, it was also influenced by the fact that it was not a very large project (about 1000 pieces).
