After you define your goals, be sure to think about how your mentor can help you succeed. Maybe they have insights to help you refine your goals, or they might have key contacts who can help you succeed, etc. If you’re struggling with this, talk it out with your mentor. As someone who has been on both sides of mentoring relationships, I promise that having clarity of purpose will make the experience easier and more rewarding for both of you. Just remember not to limit your future conversations to these initial ideas, let the relationship grow organically from there.

This is something I agree with and celebrate. The end of a relationship is never the end of knowing that person, it simply means that you've achieved the personal goals you set when you intended to start your relationship. Even if the relationship showed you what you don't want, that's cause for celebration, appreciation and gratitude. This means that communicating with your mentor where you are and that your needs have changed shouldn't exclude how grateful you are for their time.
