I have always found the best way to communicate a complex idea is to find a relatable analogy that shows what the problems is, and the solve that is being implemented and why that doesn’t work. Having a story that is very simple like taking a short cut to get to a location faster but you end up getting multiple flat tires on the way because while the short cut seemed like a good idea. It didn’t actually accomplish the end goal. People are visual and need to hear and see a story to also see how to reflects back to their current issues. It always helps.

Sometimes other people's stories aren't enough. We need to create our own.

While you may not have convinced them of your position, minimally, you will have left them with an alternative view.
