In my experience, while cloud computing offers significant advantages for SATCOM, the emerging trend of Edge Computing in space, particularly for LEO systems, is more exciting. Edge Computing brings processing power closer to the data source, reducing latency and improving response times. This is crucial for real-time applications like autonomous navigation and situational awareness. Plus, it allows for more efficient data management, as only relevant data is sent to the cloud, optimizing bandwidth usage. Regulatory compliance is also streamlined, as data can be processed locally, adhering to regional data sovereignty laws. For SATCOM, this means not only enhanced performance but also greater regulatory flexibility and market adaptability.
