How do you learn from speaker feedback?

I prefer peer feedback the most. Asking a trusted friend, who I know will tell me what I need to hear, has greatly helped in future public speaking and presentations. And, my greatest but most appreciated critic, has always been my wife.

I agree with this, but one thing I have done that works is to provide the ability for your audience feedback in different formats such as oral and written feedback. Immediate feedback in person, video feedback if virtual (this can also later be used as a video testimonial if you receive permission). Be sure you not only provide check boxes and rating scales in your survey, but also provide an option for open feedback without prompting any questions.

Learning from speaker feedback is a dynamic process rooted in active engagement and a growth mindset. Listening carefully is important because it helps individuals recognize areas that need improvement and leverage their strengths effectively. Treat feedback as a constructive tool, rather than mere criticism, that acts as a compass to improve your communication skills and the impact of your presentation. Viewing feedback as a dialogue, seeking clarification and engaging in a continuous learning cycle not only demonstrates engagement but also fosters a collaborative environment. Quickly incorporating feedback into subsequent presentations completes the loop, ensuring one's speaking skills are continually developed.

Tactile, right now data is available by lingering at the front of the stage as the session ends. Questions that are asked and words of appreciation offered on the spot are rich sources of data. I listen for whether the comments are "on subject" for the goals of the organizers who invited me, and if the questions are ones of application I intended to prompt in the audience members' minds If they are there I can be assured I was on target. If not, then I missed the mark.

Delivering engaging and impactful presentations is a passion. Depending on the situation, I rely on valuable feedback from various sources. Audience Feedback provides direct insights into satisfaction, engagement, and learning intentions. => It's the audience's response that truly matters. Organizer Feedback offers a unique perspective on presentation quality, professionalism, and relevance. => It helps me align with event objectives. Peer Feedback from fellow speakers helps refine my delivery, style, and presentation structure. => Learning from peers is invaluable. Lastly, Self-Feedback is a personal compass. => Self-reflection guides me in setting goals for growth. These diverse sources have been instrumental.

Always ask for feedback. Make sure you give your audience an easy-to-use tool to evaluate your engagement. Make sure you give them a form to not just check the boxes but give you "free flowing" comments on how you did. If there is video of the engagement, ask unbiased folks to take a look and give you candid feedback. Review the video multiple times. I have picked up things on the third watch that I didn't catch the first two times, etc.

I've found engaging honestly with both organisers and audience members on what they found engaging (or not) the best way to get an all-round feedback and barometer of how the presentation went.

When I speak, I am determined to connect with the audience and ensure they are left with valuable insights. Before the sessions, I use pre-session surveys to understand expectations needs. During the presentation, I gauge understanding and engagement, adjusting my content accordingly. After the sessions, I distribute post-session questionnaires, including Likert scales to measure satisfaction. But what truly makes the feedback impactful is open-ended questions. Hearing participants' voices and passion is inspiring. It reminds me of the real impact a speaker can have on an audience. => The key takeaway here is that feedback methods and tools should align with the context and audience.

Always know which tools works best for the feedback you desire. In some cases, a barrage of tools could confuse you and others. Also, the results from these tools may not always capture the true value of the feedback.

If there are speakers at the event who you admire or look up to in the industry, ask them for feedback. If you want something to aspire to, ask those who you want to be like for honest feedback!

In my own case, I get most of the feedback I need from simply observing my audience while speaking. * Does it seem as if some have switched off mentally? * What do the expression on their faces say? * Are some leaving to the conveniences, or to answer phone calls? * Would there be a need to adjust my tone, pace, pitch, volume, or even style of delivery?

Feedback analysis is key for a speaker’s growth. Start by categorizing feedback into themes like content, delivery, and engagement. Look for patterns in quantitative feedback from rating scales or surveys to identify common strengths and areas for improvement. For qualitative feedback, such as testimonials or open comments, extract specific suggestions or recurring praise. Prioritize actionable insights and focus on one or two areas for improvement at a time. Compare feedback over time to track your progress. Additionally, balance audience feedback with your own self-assessment from watching recorded speeches to ensure a holistic approach to growth

Constructive criticism can be solicited from those who are involved in the dialogue. Doing so helps you learn what could be used in future dialogues, or at least, get an understanding of the critic's perspective, as well as insight into his mind.

When it comes to making the most of feedback, I like to celebrate by expressing heartfelt gratitude to those who contribute their insights. I embrace constructive feedback as my stepping stones to improvement, seeking out new knowledge and exploring best practices. I dive into action mode by applying the feedback to my presentation, and I keep a keen eye on the results. But the journey doesn't stop there! After making those changes, I like to measure my progress. I collect and analyze feedback once more, comparing outcomes, setting fresh goals, and revisiting my action plans. This continuous cycle isn't just about improvement; it's about taking my presentation skills to the next level, all while keeping things casual and professional.

When I request for feedback, I remember that some of these "feedback" may actually be the opposite of what is intended. So, I avoid being a perfectionist. Doing so helps me accept criticism without viewing it as character assassination.

Listening to feedback is what will keep you in the mix in order to obtain future invitations to. speak or present. It's always interesting to obtain the perspective of the user, not your family and friends, but the true audience who is your target group. Use their comments to advance the presentation in order to figure out ways to elevate concepts, ideas, and data presentation.

Feedback is a powerful tool for conference speakers (and teachers), that allows us to see into what is happening for participants (learners).... but it can come with challenges. To overcome these hurdles, I like to integrate captivating graphics, humor, and playfulness when appropriate to lighten the mood. Through effective feedback, I can identify what is working, what is not, adapt and innovate to continually enhance the level of engagement and depth of learning..

When it comes to seeking and receiving feedback, considering the "Johari Window" can be a valuable perspective as feedback allows us to know and understand what others know while not being apparent to ourselves! Here are some additional points to consider: 1. Create a Safe Environment: Foster an environment where feedback is given and received in a safe, non-judgmental, and constructive manner. This encourages open and honest communication. 2. Ask for Specific Feedback. 3. Act on Feedback. 4. Reflect and Self-Assess. 5. Use Feedback as a Tool. Incorporating the principles of the Johari Window and these considerations into my approach to feedback leads to greater self-awareness, personal growth, and improved communication with others.

On my first "professional" tour, I landed in NYC. OMG! Despite issues with the venue, I came out with flying colors from 79 attendees. Then there was this ONE! ONE! I allowed one person who was having a bad day to cause me to spiral for an entire weekend.
