This is probably underrated. After training hundreds of practitioners, I find most do not create action plans and follow up with feedback. If you are in a people-oriented environment, you can probably apply more people skills from NLP. Nonetheless, there's already a whole range of personal mastery skills you can apply even if you are alone. Plan. Track. Compare in a community. By seeing how different approaches make a difference, you take on the true meaning of applying NLP through curiosity and application, observe differences and grow from them.

In my experience practice makes perfect. I agree with reviewing, listening to different stories to learn more. Keeping a different perspective always helps.

Perfect practice makes permanent. Keep exercising your NLP muscle. Are you integrating it within your own life as much as you can? Join practice groups, buddy up with other NLP practitioners - discuss new ideas, allow yourself to consider new applications in your own world. Read books, articles and research papers, apply critical thinking to all. Attend conferences, either online or in-person and enter the discussions. All help formulate new ideas and applications.

Yes, I agree that learning new techniques is essential and can be useful. However, be mindful not to fall for the professional "should" of having to use this in your practice. Definitely chek-in with yourself if this technique is in alignment with your personal preferences, because if it is not, then you'll fall into the trap of wanting to use it to impress your clients, but without creating a meaningful impact on them because you force the technique on yourself and them. What I love about NLP is that it has a wide range of techniques available and you can pick and choose from them what resonates with your personal style.

Remaining a student of NLP for life and being relentless in looking to apply NLP in everyday life are good ways to keep the practice strong. Let me share an instance of what happened during our trainer's training in Goa last year. While practicing Qi-Gong on the beach, I noticed a little boy attacked by 2 dogs & saved by his father just in time. As we finished our exercise, and I walked back, and went up to the family to check if the boy was fine. He looked visibly shaken. I smiled at the boy and said, "I wanted to shake your hand". He asked, "Why?" And I replied, "because I saw how brave you are!" The child smiled back and gladly shook hands with me. And I smiled that the child's memory of the beach wouldn't be of the menacing dogs!

I believe we should have a mentor. A mentor can be our trainer or anyone else in the NLP or coaching field who will share their time and wisdom to guide us. Choose a mentor who can guide you, coach you, and make the best out of you. While books, courses, and networking complement and expand our learning horizon, a mentor can give us invaluable direction. Before choosing a mentor, we must know - - Why do we seek a mentor? - What do we want to achieve with the help of a mentor's wisdom? - What outcomes do we expect specifically? - Are we prepared to give our time and effort for the mentoring partnership? - Are we ready to take the mentor's feedback and take action? These questions may help us decide on a mentor.
