How do you keep your content consistent on all devices?

In my agency, while crafting content for our clients or ourselves we prefer using flexible layouts, fluid grids, and media queries. The user should be able to adjust content to his/her device, that's why we use adaptable columns and rows and apply varying styles based on device features.

I always prefer a KISS strategy. Keep it short and simple. If one liners can do the job there is no need of lengthy paragraphs. Usage of images is important but don't go for very much particular images if a normal one can do the job. It depends on you and your organization's target audience what you are going to express, promote and share.

The 12-column grid system is a good start for flexibility. Use 4-col for mobile, 8-col for tablets and 12-col for computers. Use columns, gutters, and margins for consistent layout and unified sizes for assets. The 12-col system is designed for responsiveness, so your contents and assets would adjust accordingly to the devices. Some would use breakpoints for different devices. Some would specify with px. I personally prefer Rems: px are absolute units while rems are relative. px makes the elements consistent regardless of screen sizes, while rem would adjust accordingly. If the default size is 16pt on 8-col, and 24pt on 12-col, instead of specifying 24pt, just use 1.5 rem, so sizes would change from 16 to 24pt on bigger screens.

To be honest, I am concerned more about the words that tell the story that I want to rather than aligning them in a easy to read way.

It's a testament to the significance of staying true to design principles when fostering harmonious content across all devices.

You can optimize your images and videos in the following ways 1 - Standardizing sizes for featured images and inline images. I use consistent ratio of 1000 x 500 pixels for featured image and a size limit of less than 100 KB for any inline image. 2- Choose a format and stick to it. In my case I only use webp format for images as it provides the largest compression without loss of quality. 3- Always use a Content Delivery Network (CDN). I personally use Cloudflare for my website and its works pretty well. 4- Lazyload (available on CDN/caching plugins) helps to delay the image to be shown on the page, improving the speed of loading text content and helps retain your audience on the page.

Loading speed not only affects the site in it's search engine rankings but more critically, user experience. The size of the non-text elements on the website needs to be optimized, not just minimized. I do recommend using .webp image format for optimum size without losing out on the image quality.

Well, a few things I know about optimized media are Optimized media consumes less data, which is especially important for users on mobile devices or with limited data plans. This can make your content accessible to a broader audience.

I personally used Cloudflare for my website and it worked fine. Recently this service has been blocked in Iran and we are working without any proper CDN!!

Another thing to consider when optimizing media is that each platform has standard sizes, resolutions and upload methods for content you want to upload. Making sure that you follow their guides helps to make sure the content loads quickly and looks how it's supposed to on each platform. This is also true for websites, although the settings are mostly dependent on how powerful your hosting server is and how efficient your website code is.

Start well. End well. One of the most helpful tactics for me has been to treat writing like eating. You want to ensure you get the combination of your first bite just right, so that you’re fully drawn into it from the get-go, and you want to finish your meal feeling satiated yet wanting for more. It’s the same with writing!

The main hint when writing for social media is to keep content concise educative, and entertaining in a way. An average attention span is 8 seconds. This is your slot to hook the reader. For this, you should master the art of hook writing: - analyze what works in your industry - search across social media for the best hooks - check what influencers use for their most popular content pieces And of course, use clear formatting for the body of your content. People will look through your article looking for the answers so you don't want them to get angry while wading through your words waterfalls.

Using fancy words can stop your audience from reading your content, and this can happen right from the start. Here are some tips to engage your audience effectively: - Know Your Audience's Preferences: Understand how your audience likes to consume content. Do they prefer long articles, image carousels, short videos, or a combination of these formats? - Clear Call to Action (CTA) Upfront: Specify the action you want your audience to take right at the beginning. Make it evident why they should engage with your content. - Enjoy the Process: Pack your content with genuine enthusiasm. Your audience can easily pick up on your emotions, so let your passion shine through your words to establish a connection instantly.

Here are some tips: > Ensure content is well-structured and easy to follow. > Add headers and sub-headers, break the content down into paragraphs. > Add visuals where needed. > Use bold typeface to call to attention. > Keep the content intuitive. Use button names that call out the action or use an icon that is easy to understand

There is no ONE way to write for the web and LinkedIn is the perfect example. There is a willingness to engage with long-form storytelling on this platform that simply isn't true for a platform like Instagram. To that point, you need to be aware of how your audience engages with different online platforms as you would with online vs print platforms. Writing for an email newsletter will be different from writing for a website which will be different from a social post - even when the content is the same. Listen to your audience - with analytics, you can see how your audience engages with your posts. A platform that has a mobile-first audience needs concise to-the-point writing just to account for screen size in a way computer users won't.

Since the start of my writing endeavors, I have always put users first and I continue to follow that habit while reviewing/editing my work. It is always good to get a 2nd perspective but more important to get a trustworthy opinion and not just someone who will want to fashion your words in their style. Take a ll the feedback, but always trust your gut. It never lies.

This is an area that’s seemingly so easy to tackle but sometimes hard to do at scale when you’re cranking out content in a hyper-growth environment. In order to fully integrate testing you have to incorporate it into your strategy briefs and workflows.

Another way to ensure that you can test the performance of your content is to have and know standard formats for the content you put out so that you can quickly and easily audit and track what's happening, what's working and what's not.

Revisiting ‘old’ content should not be an afterthought or something you do when you’re otherwise struggling for ideas: reviewing and re-optimising content should be a fundamental part of any content strategy. Track the performance of your content as soon as it’s published, and if it’s not hitting the mark, update it. For example, if you’re optimising content for search and it’s not ranking well after the first quarter, it’s unlikely to rank well after the following quarter, or the one after that, so you should review it objectively asap and find where it’s falling short against competitors.

I myself would prefer an engagingly informative content with graphical intercepts for better understanding. Usage of attractive color is recommended to engage audience!

A title is critical for any content piece, be it all-text, all-visual or a mix of both. However, writers tend to misuse it as a clickbait. It should be enticing yes, but at the same time, it should do complete justice to the content that follows it. If there is a disconnect, the user-base will slowly start to feel a disconnect resulting in low visitor count, high bounce rates and a not-so-good reputation in the online space around your area of expertise.

Data is king here. You should always rely on data to make conclusions about content performance. And it's not just about crafting content; it's about using analytics, engagement metrics, and user behavior patterns to inform and elevate our strategies. Data transforms assumptions into certainties, enabling us to refine our approach, seize emerging trends, and create resonant experiences. But, don't forget to be human. No one likes to read AI-generated insipid stories.

If anything can be explained through visuals like flowcharts, graphs, tables, infographics, etc., you should go ahead and get that done. Every attempt needs to be towards making the content as clear for as many people as possible. If you can pack the most information, and most amount of detail in as few words, you've won the battle.

I would strongly advice using content consistency tools like- 1. IBM FileNet Content Consistency Checker Tool: a tool that validates storage area metadata and checks for consistency in content 2. UXtweak: a content testing tool that allows testing content on websites and mobile apps 3. Userpilot: a product growth platform that allows testing content and improving it with better in-app messages 4. CrazyEgg: a heat mapping software with recordings, surveys, and A/B testing that allows seeing how users interact with content Additionally, there are several content testing methods that can be used, such as A/B testing, task-based usability testing, five-second tests, card sorting, and cloze tests.

Gather feedback from users who access your content on different devices. This feedback can help you identify areas for improvement and ensure that your content is meeting user expectations across the board.
