It is important to remember that our interests are likely to change over time. Keeping this in mind may prevent us from getting 'analysis paralysis' and allow us to explore different topics more freely. You can always unsubscribe or unfollow those resources later on. Even though our interests evolve, underlying themes often remain constant. Mind mapping is a great way to get an overview of these themes and identify the common threads. A mind map can also help you discover where the topics overlap, giving you better insight into how different areas can be combined or integrated to develop innovative approaches or solutions. Treat it as a living document that stores your thoughts and evolves as you learn more.

In my experience, personal motivation is fundamental. The reason is that the amount of problems to resolve during the creation and implementation of the project (money, place, time etc.) could be a serious burden for the research. Ask the question do you desire to continue with this or not? Let's try to be practical and realistic.

To keep things organized, you can automatically have those email alerts stored in a specific folder in your email so you have a ready list of the latest research on a specific topic.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to experts in your field and share your thoughts. Some may give you constructive feedback, while others may be less willing to listen. But do try and engage them and make the experience more interactive. You’d be pleasantly surprised.

They often share insights, papers, and upcoming events related to the latest advancements in the field.

La participation a des conférences au moins une fois par an est importante pour suivre les dernières tendances et développements de notre domaine de recherche. En effet, la partie publiée correspond souvent a des travaux présentés par des chercheurs déjà reconnus et qui présentent souvent des prolongements de leur recherche antérieure. Les nouvelles tendances seront présentées par les doctorants et jeunes docteurs sur des formats "communication "ou "poster" plus facilement accessible. Mais ces travaux, même si ils sont moins aboutis, s'appuient souvent sur une revue de littérature très complète qui est une mine d'or pour comprendre comment une question de recherche a évoluer ces vingt dernières années.

Its important to utilize online platforms and resources. Online platforms like Google Scholar, ResearchGate, arXiv, and preprint servers can help you discover recent publications and research works. Additionally, academic search engines and library databases provide access to a wide range of scholarly articles and publications.

Google scholar est un outil utile mais il n'est pas le meilleur outil pour identifier les articles relevant du domaine académique. En effet, tout type de publications sont identifiées (avec d'ailleurs un biais sur la langue et l'existence numérique de ladite publication). Cependant, il s'agit d'un outil utile pour un premier panorama. Il est également très utile pour suivre des thèmes (l'outil de veille est très puissant). Mais pour creuser, j'utilise également beaucoup CAIRN (dans mon domaine , sciences sociales) et research gate qui permet d'accéder à des projets et des pre-print. Quand on a déjà repéré les principaux auteurs contribuant à une thématique, cet outil est vraiment très utile.

Très concrètement, s'insérer dans son laboratoire de recherche, participer à ses activités, y compris les plus administratives (conseils de laboratoire) est un excellent conseil à donner aux jeunes doctorants car c'est via des échanges informels qu'on peut découvrir des centres d'intérêt communs qui peuvent, par la suite, générer des projet de recherche en commun.

Collaborative projects offer opportunities to learn from others, exchange knowledge, and stay updated on ongoing research.

En plus des recommandations déjà citées, il est important de profiter des possibilités de formation continue offerte par l'Université ou le laboratoire de recherche. Dans le domaine des sciences de gestion, nous avons la possibilité de suivre des séminaires à la FNEGE (Fédération Nationale de l'Enseignement en Gestion ....) et à l'UNPIFD (sorte de formation continue des enseignants-chercheurs mises en commun). Leur programme de formations sont excellents et les enseignants-chercheurs y ont le droit. Ils peuvent demander à ce que ces programmes de formation soient financés par leur département ou laboratoire.

Un des séminaires de la FNEGE que j'ai suivi portait sur la valorisation des études de cas (comment transformer une étude de cas réalisée pour la recherche en cas pédagogique). A l'issue de cette formation de trois jours, nous avons lancé un projet qui a abouti à publier l'ouvrage Management des services, études de cas à EMS éditions. Les formations continues sont également des situations où rencontrer des collègues partageant les mêmes préoccupations que nous et pouvant devenir des co-auteurs.
