I agree with Adam and John - both technology and people are at play here all the way from the Business Impact Analysis to the final Recovery Plans. And, let's not forget the Crisis Management role here. In my experience we're talking about Recovery Plans which include all aspects - Crisis Management, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery. What glues all this together is exercising and practicing the plans. Resiliency is a journey and must become a cultural value in organizations to be successful and sustainable. I do not like to see organizations get hung up on semantics and old industry jargon. Practice makes perfect!

Disaster recovery (DR) is a component of business continuity/business continuity programs. DR plans for technology, recovery of IT systems, data, telecommunications, and all things applications. DR involves creating backups, replicating data, manual workarounds, having alternative sites or systems that can be activated in case of an emergency, and all things IT recovery.
