How do you inspire active and responsible changemakers?

Every superhero has an origin story. From Batman to Wonder Woman, each had a catalyst that crystalized their purpose and called them to action. Becoming an Agent of Change requires a similar clarity of mission, born of challenge. Agents of Change see a better way, and inspire others to join their quest. They create possibilities and harness energy to maintain momentum. Purpose is the why that fuels the who, what, and how. When confidence falters, changemakers can ground themselves in their origin stories and refocus on their goals. When progress seems daunting, group energy can find creative ways to carry the mission through.

I think being of great impact is not setting out to be famous or overly popular . Seek no credit. Have a history of giving and generously leaning in. Be someone impressive by the least likely people. Stick to what you know. Dive deep into your area of genius. Spend time being curious and insanely passionate. Collaborate with others that match your energy and see what comes from it. Little by little, you look around and you are being sought out not by people wanting something from you but asking how they can help you. Be a part of what you are doing. Surprise people. Do things they don't expect. Places they didn't expect. Again, not for fame, but to show you walk the walk. Givers Gain. No has been able to prove me wrong yet.

In my 7 years in the social sector, I've faced doubts about our impact. But I've learned that inspiring active, responsible changemakers is possible. Lead by example, share your journey, and foster a learning culture. Build a supportive network, empower and delegate, and celebrate small wins. It becomes very inspiring to me when my work on ocean law becomes helpful to academics and policymakers to influence the development of the future, such as climate change issues and security of submarine cables.

I've found that defining one's purpose often comes from deep reflection of life experiences. Some experiences keep coming back till we've learnt our lesson and inspires change. - Spend time reflecting on your experiences. - Identify problem areas, have the courage to acknowledge them, and take action towards making positive change. It'll not only propel your life forward, but might inspire others to do the same. - It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you're learning and growing. - Voice honest opinions when they matter, even if they're not the most popular ones; even when you think you're standing alone. - Maintain consistency of aim and effort in your thoughts and actions and inspire a tribe of changemakers!

I have been learning from amazing peers and mentors in shipping, engineering and law who are eminent experts in their fields and realising there is so much to learn and master.

To learn and to teach. Sometimes we underplay the value of sharing our skills and experience, when in fact it can inspire others to keep taking the steps for change. Every step counts

The more I learn the less I know and most of the knowlege I gain in my field is from trusted advisors and best practice of others. This is a permanent process of giving and receiving in the relevant global eco-system.

The more I learn, the more I want to learn and the more I question and expand the learning opportunities that surround us. Mentors, books, webinars, meetup, podcast... but also common sense & pragmatic answers from people completely out of our field who have great life wisdom or street smarts

It will also enable you to gain practical insights, learn from failures, and refine your approach. Engaging directly with the issue not only amplifies your contribution but also deepens your understanding and connection with the cause. Over time, the consistent application of your skills can drive significant positive change, establishing you as a credible and effective changemaker in your chosen domain.

Innovation in the simplest form is often the answer. It’s a solution that is not rocket science, but a new way of approaching a problem. We have done that with waste management. Going back to basics and evolving an inclusive circular economy formula that allows the simplest actions become transformative

Applying skills is a dynamic process. It's about not only employing your abilities to initiate change but also motivating and engaging others to join in. By setting an example and showcasing the positive results of your application, I manage to inspire others to participate and challenge the status quo. This continuous loop of applying skills, inspiring action, and iterating based on collective feedback ensures a perpetual journey of improvement and lasting impact.

Having a set of framework(s) helps to define actionable steps to take. Change makers are self-motivated and to achieve fruitful results, they look for solutions that best fit their needs, learning from the experiences of others who have walked that similar path successfully.

In a digital world often overshadowed by filters and superficiality, showcasing the real you is crucial in building a genuine story. Authenticity builds trust and fosters meaningful connections. People want to connect with the person behind the professional fa?ade. When we are authentic, genuine, and real, we attract people's attention and interest. By embracing our true selves, including our imperfections, we build trust and create deep connections with others. I can’t tell if this section was written poorly by AI or if it was meant to emphasize “storytelling” three times ????♂?but either way, I agree. Share your story! Often times we can be blind to the awesome things in our lives because we live them everyday. But, when we share our stories — and I mean actually share the real stuff and not a curated feed for social media — others will likely see a bit of themselves and realize that they have something to offer as well. So, while I don’t love the word “inspire” (it’s overused IMO), sharing makes it easier for others to do the same. And that’s how we learn from each other. From that shared learning and appreciation comes change.

To create the change you need to be the change and lead from the front. By doing that and active empowerment of the team to make small changes (that make things better) without seeking layers of approval will eventually lead to big changes in the organization. @kenneth kwan is a major proponent of this.
