More impactful sustainable solutions can be achieved through collaboration. I would therefore recommend to think beyond your own sustainability goals since the beginning. Applying systems' thinking will allow you to see your organizations impacts (positive or negative) in a broader perspective with links to potential partnerships and collaboration opportunities. Understanding how is your organization part of a broader ecosystem within eg. supply chain, local communities or even your peers and competitors, will help define your sustainability goals that have larger positive and longer lasting impacts.

The results of well scoped Life Cycle Assessment of a product, group of products, materials or services, indeed uncovers "hotspots"(ie. areas with the largest environmental impact) to focus on. Importantly, the process of collecting information to perform an LCA, ie. understanding the life cycle, its boundaries, collecting data, measurements and talking with stakeholders, is a huge learning process that on its own can generate lots of ideas for improvements and innovation. Together, the analysis itself, linked with more collective/cross-functional/customer insights gives marketing and R&D teams more in depth understanding of opportunities for innovation on one side and a much broader prospective on the impacts and benefits on the other.

For that, I would recommend: 1) Find the right partners, not just organizations, but individuals within those organizations that share the same vision and willingness to give up something for a bigger joint achievement 2) Set together SMART partial goals while aligning on the big one. 3) Agree roles and responsibilities. Understand mutual expectations and update those regularly. 4) Allow enough time. Unrealistic deadlines create unnecessary pressure and hinder progress. 5) Communicate openly and agree your ground rules. 6) Allow for calibration of your way of working and partial goals along the way. You cannot know everything 100% upfront.

In this article, there is not part dedicated to "how to monitor your sustainable development ?" For this part, my favourite reporting tool it the balanced scorecard from Kaplan and Norton. The balanced scorecard does not only view the financial or the commercial (customer focused) perspective. It also takes into account innovative mindset, continuous learning and development perspective, and organisational processes perspective. You can only improve on the long haul what you are able to measure.

It is crucial to remain agile and adaptive in the approach, going beyond the outlined steps. The sustainability landscape is constantly changing, with regulations, consumer preferences, and new technologies all playing a role. It is essential to constantly assess strategies, keep up with emerging trends, and take advantage of opportunities for innovation and collaboration.
