I even managed to get vaccinated in Serbia in mid 2021 because of a third degree connection from someone whom I met through lunchclub, a online networking platform. It's through this meticulous analysis that you can discern precisely what you seek in potential future partnerships.

One of the best ways to do this is to attend a conference or happy hour to understand the active players in your industry. Doing so provides you with the opportunity to raise awareness of your existing product offering. Most importantly, you can start creating a pipeline of potential partners acquired in bulk. I have found that cold outreach in partnerships is very hard. In-person events and warm referrals tend to lead to higher results.

Proper governance structures are critical. Value of the deal comes during execution phase - i.e., can we achieve the goals and milestones of the deal? A skilled alliance management is most valuable in helping a company achieve the partnership goals.

And why not ask them to introduce you to other partners they have, other clients they have and see the developments they have done live. If they do so, you can ask specifically on the developments they did and check on involvement and/or in-depth knowledge

Determine whether the potential partner is a "Strategic Fit" that aligns with your product development strategy and overall business objectives. Seek alignment on vision, values, trust, transparent and open communication, industry expertise, industry reputation, distribution channels, supply chain risks, available budget for forecasted production, ability to meet deadlines, finished product quality and QC process, cost management, game planning for additional product SKUs, assessing and implementing existing product improvements, accountability for when problems arise, expectations for product order fulfillment, shipping and logistics, EHS standards, perspectives on carbon footprint reduction....

It's critical to have a single threaded leader and exec sponsor from both sides. When everyone owns a project, no one owns the outcome.
