How do you handle a scenario where a content creator feels their ideas are constantly overlooked by the team?

It's a really interesting, but common scenario. The content generator knows their audience, whilst the Brand owner has their own commercial objectives. I find an initial exploration and discussion of the brands objectives is critical, but so is flexibility from the brand. The content often receiving the most engagement, is that which is innovative and delivers a real point of difference and brand owners need to be flexible enough to understand that.

1. Acknowledge Feelings: Validate their feelings and express understanding of their concerns. 2. Open Communication: Facilitate an open dialogue between the content creator and the team to discuss specific instances. 3. Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback on why certain ideas were not adopted and suggest improvements. 4. Encourage Participation: Create a structured process for idea submission and ensure everyone's contributions are considered. 5. Seek Compromise: Find a middle ground where the content creator's ideas can be integrated or adapted. 6. Empower Ownership: Assign projects or tasks where the content creator can lead and showcase their ideas. 7. Recognize Contributions

Open Discussion: The content creator and the team should have an open discussion. Encourage Feedback: The team should explain why certain ideas can’t be considered. Follow a Structured Process: There should be one structured process where everyone’s ideas are considered. Everyone should contribute on a single platform where they’re reviewed and feedback is shared. Inspire Teamwork: Motivate team members to work jointly and appreciate each others’ skills and ideas. Bring Changes: If ideas are continuously overlooked, propose changes. Empower Team: Encourage content creators to add different spices to their ideas and share them with the team. Empower them to lead and deliver the project on time.

Constructive criticism and a willingness to objectively listen to feedback from others is a superpower. Some of the best changes I’ve ever made in my life were from listening to this kind of feedback or ‘brutal honesty’. But the key is to pick and choose who you take the advice and feedback from. It’s good to be open to all but always prioritize the feedback from well intentioned people whom you respect.

Reevaluating Team Processes to ensure that everyone's ideas are considered and that no one feels overlooked. Create clear agendas for meetings that allocate specific time slots for idea sharing. This ensures that everyone can present their thoughts without being overshadowed. Appoint a facilitator or moderator for meetings to ensure the discussion remains balanced and inclusive. The facilitator can guide the conversation, encourage quieter team members to speak up, and manage conflicts. Consider implementing a system where team members can submit ideas anonymously before meetings. This can be done through digital tools or a suggestion box. The anonymity can encourage those who might feel shy or unsure to contribute without fear of judgment.
