I absolutely agree with this. Your first step has to be to define and set the expectations of each individual. Without knowing what is expected how can anyone begin to work? If everyone knows their own specific responsibilities along with the general role of Each of their team members it makes for a much better Team. Standardization of how each task is done just makes things run much more smoothly. It is awful to not know what to do or what is expected of you. I have been in situations like that. It is not fun nor productive when the team feels like they have been thrown into the deep end without a life vest. You end up with poor quality chaos and fewer team members eventually.

Openness, honesty, respect. And down below in the article, accountability. In my experiences these concepts happen in the trenches, but less and less the higher you go in management. Too bad. The construction world is not the same as when I started 30+ years ago. A handshake means nothing today. Contracts rule. Only the almighty dollar matters, relationships and integrity mean nothing. Guess I am a dinosaur from the past, wishing for the old days. I will never quit though. If I can get just one other person to act with openness, honesty, respect and accountability, then I have achieved a positive result. I will continue and hopefully influence many more than just 1 person

I agree 100 % with this. Working as a team is more beneficial than as an individual. As a team, people can ask other members of the team a question without having to find a answer on your own. Which can be time consuming and at time frustrating. Also, how do you know you found the correct answer? You don’t unless you track someone down and ask. The problem there is they might not be able to answer depending on the type of field they’re in. Also, another benefit working as a team is the celebration you get to have with others when the project or job has been accomplished. There’s so much more but it is an all in effort by everyone on that team to make a successful story! Celebrate as a team!
