Having a well-defined and shared purpose will help you communicate, motivate, and guide your agile transformation. It will also help you set realistic and relevant metrics to track your success.

If a young kid watches all his friends playing football, even though he himself likes reading, he would try to conform and pretend to like football to look cool in the group! Similarly, a lot of organizations are still bureaucratic as hell and still pretend to be agile because that is what is in trend. The goal of the organization shall be to get quality features to the users sooner instead of tagging themselves as an Agile organization! To be a place where continuous improvement is the core value aided by technology automation. To be a place where "means" take you to the "end" instead of becoming the end themselves.

While Agile is a powerful tool, it is still just one tool out of many. Understanding what you hope to accomplish with the tool is critical. While you can effectively drive a nail into a board with a screwdriver, you will have much more success if you use a hammer.

For sure, building a Transformation program requires to define what you want to achieve so what your goals are. You cannot define the steps if you don't know your where you want to go.

2 Choose your metrics

Metrics are essential tools to measure and improve your agile transformation. They can help you monitor performance, identify gaps, celebrate wins, and adjust your actions. However, not all metrics are equal; you need to choose metrics that are meaningful, actionable, and aligned with your goals. For example, customer satisfaction can measure how happy customers are with the products or services and how often feedback is collected and acted upon. Business value looks at how much value is delivered to customers and the organization, as well as how value propositions are prioritized and validated. Team health assesses how well teams collaborate, learn, and adapt, as well as how engaged and empowered they are to make decisions and solve problems. Lastly, agile maturity measures the maturity of agile practices and principles across the organization.

Metrics are "goals dependant". For one goal, one metric, not more: too many metrics kill the metrics... One of the software Product most important metrics is the product contribution : (revenue-cost)/revenue. It illustrates the performance of the Product.

Most Organizations do not truly embrase transformation, it's just a process that is percieved to create a better work enviornment. Success should be measured by the feedback from the employees on how the transformation is affecting them and is it making their position better or worse. In most cases, unless the organization is pristine, a period of disorganization precedes any progress that will be achieved.

3 Use a balanced scorecard

A balanced scorecard is a framework that assists in measuring an agile transformation from various perspectives and dimensions. It helps to balance the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the change, as well as the short-term and long-term results. A balanced scorecard usually consists of four perspectives: Financial, Customer, Internal, and Learning and Growth. The Financial perspective focuses on how the transformation impacts revenue, cost, and profitability. The Customer perspective looks at how it affects customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention. The Internal perspective examines how it boosts operational efficiency, quality, and innovation. Finally, the Learning and Growth perspective evaluates how it encourages organizational culture, capabilities, and agility.

Measuring your agile transformation success is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing process that requires regular evaluation and adaptation.
