How do you foster a culture of quality across the supply chain?

Sharing my learnings to foster a “Quality Culture” across Supply chain: a)Commitment of Senior management is of utmost importance and there should be one message that resonates across organisation b)Bottom up engagement of staffs is crucial c)Technology adaption enables effective “System control/Poka Yoke” and reduces error rate d)A positive reinforcement on “Learning and Continuous improvement” enables the quality framework e)Lastly,I would recommend Industry benchmark and Audit as an approach to understand and close gaps in line with the Market/Industry trends

Fostering a tradition of first-rate across the supply chain reaps numerous advantages. SCQM complements consumer satisfaction, loyalty, and common enterprise overall performance. It slashes costs, mitigates dangers, and boosts performance and productiveness. By maintaining consistency and excessive requirements, SCQM prevents defects, mistakes, and waste. Standardizing satisfactory strategies streamlines operations even as nurturing a tradition of continuous development drives innovation and competitiveness.

1. Evaluate Supply Chain maturity (many tools available) to check critical aspects : 1. People (skills matrix..). 2. Process (flows, standards...). 3. System performance (ERP, solutions...). 4. Infrastructure and tools (Warehouses, transportation...). SHE and compliance 2. Launch initiatives to enhance the quality of each of the five pillars listed above. Initiatives will be based on Best practices and tools on each pillar following your business specifications and objectives. LEAN and agile management practices will be for great support to come up with sustainable solutions that will instaure a culture of quality.

Quality starts at the top and cascades down to the grassroots level through a clear vision and expectations setting with accountability held at each level to ensure that an empowered team embraces a culture of learning, takes data-driven decisions, leverages technology, and collaborates extensively to foster a culture of quality across the organization. Regular, open & honest communication and an unwavering spirit of customer centricity ensures that the product reaches the customer on time in full every time. This, coupled with processes that introduce no defects, are agile & comply with regulations, and a robust risk handling & mitigation system is the recipe for a resilient supply chain that can withstand any disruption and still deliver.

Quality is important everywhere. To foster Quality culture In SCM Function important aspects are 1. Very important is Leadership involvement in Quality Program from beginning / Set vision for Quality improvement with its awareness across group. 2. Hire Quality Consultants to guide & deploy Quality frameworks. 3. Train all employees on quality tools like 5Why, 7QC, 8D, FMEA... (Shall be part of onboarding program) 4. Quality should be a goal for everyone. 5. Finally Involve everyone to brainstorm, Collaborate, accept mistakes, learn from mistakes, appreciate those learnings.. Keep positive morale and not the burden. Let everyone know that - Quality is doing it right when no one is looking and Quality is not an act, its habit !!

In my view, fostering a culture of quality across the supply chain begins with leadership commitment, where top management prioritizes quality and communicates its importance. Employee engagement and training empower staff to take ownership of quality through ongoing education. Collaborating with suppliers ensures they meet quality standards, fostering long-term partnerships and regular assessments. Standardized processes and quality management systems (QMS) ensure consistency and control. Continuous improvement is driven by feedback and methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma. Performance metrics and KPIs are tracked using data to identify trends and drive improvements.

In order to foster quality across the supply chain, i think first of all proper PPAP has to be followed. While manufacturing, supplier should not make any compromise in the making. Then Inspection and receiving process has to be transparent across the chain. Another important thing is that while preparing these, we need to ensure that suppliers are also in the loop to ensure quality across the chain.
